Lower than five minutes push from Margaret River's popular beaches, the Howard Park cellar is the best place to unwind immediately after an early early morning surf or swim. 5 minutes from Margaret River while in the Boodjidup Valley, we cruise down an extended winding driveway peppered with groves of trees, passing paddocks and eco-friendly fields and of course vineyards.
Swings & Roundabouts is arguably the hippest Vineyard in W.A. with an excellent cafe, blaring songs, cosy open fires, and an expansive lawn to spend an afternoon in the Solar. The wood fired pizza and rustic Mediterranean-impressed cafe menu matches flawlessly with the wonderful choice of wines available to sample.
But the point of distinction at Howard Park has to be the Wine Chapel that is established overlooking the Leston Vineyard with hills stretching way beyond. It’s enviably sophisticated, understated and reeks of ‘no expense spared’.
Amid other classy touches observe the distinctive lights which were designed from the 38 12 months outdated vines of the prestigious Abercrombie winery.
The Wolves in question make premium wines, and had been previously resident in a Willyabrup Vineyard site. Now they’ve have moved north to some magical new lair.
Invoice Ullinger, an ex-Lancaster Bomber pilot, established Redgate in 1977. As with the name Redgate, In line with Invoice's character, there was the moment a residence close by that experienced a Margaret River Wines Small Batch name for manufacturing very good moonshine.
You’ll drive alongside a laneway girded by trees, and find from the backyard citrus trees heaving, in period, with fruit in Back garden of Eden proportions. Stroll throughout the backyard grotto, as we did to strains from the Blues wafting down from the most crucial dwelling.
From my journal: “Lunchtime – My chair was pulled out for me and also a crisp white linen serviette swished onto my lap by David, the helpful cafe manager. A big log fire was burning in the huge hearth and dappled sunlight spread over the leaf scattered lawns, highlighting the avenue of golden brown pear trees and also the tender lilac hues of the large rosemary bushes at the doorway.

You may assume a lovely cellar door expertise if you’re lucky to encounter Fran who led me from the gamut of Xanadu’s Excellent wines in the course of a friendly and enlightening tasting session. My favourites from an in depth list were the 2013 Xanadu Chardonnay and also the 2012 Xanadu Graciano.
